I am a writer and communication scholar studying media, politics and identity, an avid reader, and an ardent film, art and music enthusiast. My research explores the relationship between media, politics, public opinion and public policy. I'm particularly interested how communication influences attitudes towards race, gender and sexual orientation. I am currently working on finalizing my first book, The Politics of Interracial Romance in American Film. I also contributed to Parasocial Politics: Audience Readings of Cultural Politics in Pop Culture (Rowman and Littlefield) and The Encyclopedia of Social Media and Politics (Sage/CQ Press Feb 2014). I have a Bachelors in English and American Literature from Harvard and a Ph.D. in Mass Communication Research from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Hussman School of Journalism and Media, where I concentrated in Political Communication, Public Opinion, and Public Policy.
